About James

Background

I have over 30 years’ experience in Science and mathematics education, mentoring and Environmental consultancy.

I am a Chartered Scientist (CSci) with the Science Council of Great Britain, a Chartered Chemist  (CChem) and Fellow of The Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC), Specialist in Land Condition (SiLC) and a Suitably Qualified Person (SQP under the National Quality Mark Scheme).

Teaching Work

I teach students of all ages from Key Stage 3 up to and including A-Level.

I specialise in Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics.  I usually undertake tuition on a one-to-one basis, either in person or over Teams/Skype/Zoom.  However, group session can be arranged if requested.

I help younger people as a private tutor towards GCSE and A-levels in Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics (Pure and Mechanics) – either in person or online.

I help students with attaining the grades they need to continue their studies into the 6th form or for entry into their chosen University to study subjects such as mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, medicine, pharmacy, dentistry, chemistry, biomedical sciences, etc.  My Testamonials page is  here.

Mentoring & Chartership

I offer support and technical expertise to graduates pursuing chartership, typically chemists applying for CChem or others applying for CGeol or CIWEM.

I helped on the Royal Society of Chemistry chartership working group to update the methods and routes to chartered chemist (CChem).

Recently I am helping with SiLC and their continuing professional development (CPD) requirements auditing.  To support SiLC members in their ongoing professional education.

Environmental Consultancy

Throughout my post-graduate working life, I have undertaken Land Contamination Assessments, Environmental Modelling, Risk Assessment, Remediation Design, Supervision & Verification, Permitting, Regulator Liaison, Data Management, bespoke environmental software-application development.

From fieldwork design and developing and agreeing data quality objectives with clients and regulators, my focus is always directed at sustainability and cost effectiveness.

My approach is always risk based using various robust tools/approaches to provide certainty and sensible answers to environmental problems.  I then design and manage appropriate remedial measures to protect humans and the wider  environment.
